Mother’s Day Traditions: Tori Mellott

We asked some of our most inspiring, like-minded friends about their Mother’s Day traditions– from when they were growing up to the traditions they are now passing down. Hear from Tori Mellott, current Style Director of @fredericmagazine & FSCO Media and mom to Franny and Lucy, below.

What is one of your favorite traditions or memories with your mother?

Each spring and fall, my mother would take my older sister and me on a long hike in the vast woods that spread out behind our house. Along the way, she would identify deer, bobcat, and turkey tracks.  We would collect beautiful leaf samples and press them in impossibly large books. We also hunted for mushrooms and fossils. What an adventure!

What is something your mother always said? (a catch phrase, a piece of advice, something she was right about! etc.) or What is something you are always saying to your girls? “Waste not, want not.” (My mother vehemently abhors wastefulness.) The funny thing is, it’s what I say to my girls as well!

What is a tradition you have created with you and your girls?

Every Christmas I take them to a performance of The Nutcracker at Lincoln Center.  My grandmother would take my sister and me and I wanted to continue the tradition.  We dress up in our fancy Christmas dresses, head to dinner, and then the show; it’s one of our favorite nights of the year!

We have to ask... what Caroline's Cake flavor would you love to celebrate Mother's Day with?

Of course, any and all the cakes,  but if I had to pick one it would be  7-Layer Lemon cake
