Eat Cake. Give Hope.
At Caroline’s Cakes, we’ve always believed celebrations matter. The big ones, of course, but also the simple moments around the kitchen counter. For years, you’ve allowed us to be part of those moments. You’ve welcomed us into your homes and your families, and I am deeply grateful.
Many of you know this company was built by my mother, Caroline, who believed in taking care of people and the importance of charitable giving. As an extension of that, we established Cakes for a Cause, which continues that tradition by turning something sweet into something meaningful. I am proud and appreciative of the partnerships and organizations that we work with. They truly benefit from your support.
Today is Rare Disease Day, and I want to share something close to my heart. A cause that directly impacts my family and one that I am asking for our cake community to support.
Birdie’s Flight is especially personal. Just days after her second birthday, our daughter Birdie was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called KDM5C. It affects her growth, muscle development, and speech, and brings many unknowns for the future. She spends hours each week in therapies and faces more challenges than any child should.
And yet, she sparkles. She radiates joy. She meets each day with a resilience that inspires all of us.

Today, there is no cure and there are no approved therapeutics for KDM5C. We have spent every day since her diagnosis researching everything we can and making contacts with some of the brightest minds in science and the good news is, there is HOPE for Birdie. We are kicking off a funded research program to support the research necessary to determine if there is a therapeutic ASO strategy for Birdie’s mutation in year one, and if successful, to support the development of a personalized ASO treatment that could neutralize the harmful effects of Birdie’s gene mutation and alter the trajectory of her life in year two.
Inspired by Birdie's energetic spirit, we created this cake and campaign to help fund critical research. A percentage of sales will be donated directly towards this initiative. Every Birdie’s Flight Caramel Cake purchased helps move that research forward. This one truly hits home.
Additionally, you may also donate directly and read a bit more about our journey at www.birdiesflight.com. If you choose to participate, you are doing more than sharing dessert. You are choosing to purchase with purpose. To give back with purpose. To be part of something bigger. We’ve always said, Eat Cake. Be Happy.
Today, we’re saying something more.
Eat Cake. Give Hope.

I am so touched by your video on your precious daughter Birdie’s diagnosis and incredible determination and perseverance. As a retired Registered Nurse who worked on a hospital unit with children with medical and psychological challenges as well as being a school nurse for nearly 25 years, I am a loyal supporter of your company and your FABULOUS cakes. God Bless Birdie and your incredible family. Sending many daily prayers to all of you.
Your mom would be so pleased that she is helping take care of your little bird.
I was touched by your personal story. KDM5C needs much more research and Birdie’s Flight is a step in the right direction. Good job Mom and Dad for not only helping your Daughter but other children faced with the challenges this Disease brings.
I have enjoyed your Cake for years and will be ordering yet another Birdie’s Flight Carmel Cake 🍰♥️. Prayers for little Birdie and hope that a cure will be found❤️🙏 Much love from Florida.
Thank you so much for sharing Birdie’s story. What a beautiful happy little girl she is! Her big sister is just precious and her love for Birdie shines through.
I have given your cakes and cake bites to family and friends for many years … often times for celebrations (engagements, new babies, graduations, birthdays, holidays, etc), sometimes for no reason at all, and also as “comfort food” during a difficult time. It’s my “go to” gift for any occasion.
Know that Birdie and your family will remain in our prayers in the months and years ahead as you fight for your daughter. I am sitting down to order a cake in Birdie’s honor right now.
Thank you.
